Annual Report 2023 IAAPADear IAAPA Members, I’m happy to report that 2023 represented the continued growth that we saw in 2022. It felt like it took through that year to get back to where we were before the COVID-19 pandemic threw everything for a loop. Through hard work, we were able to take the momentum from the prior year and carry it through 2023, when we were able to go to work to and help set forth ways to make our industry better for current and future generations. We introduced the new Strategic Priorities planning process, which replaced the former Five-Year Strategic Plan. This new approach is more flexible and allows us to address the pressing concerns of IAAPA membership—regardless of size—on a more fluid basis. The IAAPA Board of Directors also approved a Five-Year Strategic Safety Plan, which focuses on data collection, developing learning opportunities at all Expos, the dissemination of safety information, and championing safety standards. Our Committee Restructuring Task Force work continued, with the board adopting recommendations that make our governance more regional. We renamed regional advisory committees “regional advisory boards” to reflect an increased responsibility and mandate for those groups. In addition, we strengthened the opportunities for Manufacturers and Suppliers, who now can also become chairman of the Board. We reinforced our commitment to sustainability through our Global Sustainability Committee and a thorough materiality analysis, which was commissioned by the Board of Directors. IAAPA will lead by example by sustainably managing our operations and fostering that culture at all levels of the organization. We are also committed to leading the sustainable transition in the attractions industry. IAAPA will advance sustainable environmental, social, and economical development of member facilities, their partners, and communities. With an eye to the future, the board increased financial support for the IAAPA Foundation for scholarship and charitable efforts with David Mandt taking over as executive director. We are also beginning to consider our trade show strategy for the emerging Middle East market. And, based on member feedback, a new tiered membership dues structure was approved to allow IAAPA to be more affordable for smaller businesses. We closed the year with record membership levels, so it’s our duty to provide as much support for as possible for our members. I’m confident that will continue in 2024 and beyond.
