Upgrade your park to become COVID-19 friendly and reduce the amount of contact between staff and guests. All our gates enable zero contact while scanning tickets or passing through the entry of your park. The scanner reads and validates the ticket contactlessly and triggers the doors to open. Besides that the number of people can be set if rides have limited occupancy. It is interesting to see key representatives in the motorsport business—which is known for everything but sustainability in front, as well as back of house—lobby for a transformation from the inside. In this way, it is not much different from our industry. If we take examples like Spain’s PortAventura, which received the IAAPA Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) Award for Extraordinary Excellence 2021, recognizing its sustainability practices; the French and Danish association launching their own sustainability labels; and Liseberg in Gothenburg, Sweden, becoming the first amusement park in the world to receive the ISO 20121 sustainability certification, such a shift mostly happened with these key players’ initiative to change. As in so many other areas, IAAPA’s role is to share sustainable best practices and instances of some of these excellent initiatives to propel the global attractions industry forward as a whole. The IAAPA Sustainability Committee has a full agenda planned for the years to come and will start with three webinars this year to promote this important topic. Visit IAAPA.org/Webinars for more details. We as an industry might not have been on the forefront of sustainability, but we definitely see positive change happening every day and attractions businesses leading the way to more eco-friendly practices and actions—all from the inside!
